Science has proven a
electrochemical interaction exists between the brain and
the body. This Mind-Body connection had been
debated for years, and existed at the forefront of
battle between traditional medicine and so-called
alternative medicine. Well, alternative medicine
is slowly being replaced with the term complimentary
medicine, and both are yielding to the term integrative
medicine. Did anyone notice? In the name
of progress traditionalist have reluctantly accepted the
reality that they don't have all the answers.
Thus, outcomes based medicine was born. Outcome
referring to the fact that certain treatments can only
be evaluated on the outcomes that they produce. Not the
traditional model that places a value on a treatment
based on it meeting certain preconceived criteria.
As patients and consumers, we all to often realize that
these testing criteria have camouflaged agendas solely
based on monetary outcomes. As the internet has
been born, creating a patient having more questions, the medical
community hasn't kept up with answers for well founded
questions. Often ignorant of their roots,
physicians often forget the Greek derivation for the
word physician, means "to teach to heal". |
